New Planetarium Documentary

 

Join us on the exciting adventure of Europe’s quest to explore the Cosmos!

The new fulldome planetarium show by the Regional Natural History Museum of Plovdiv explores some of the most iconic space missions of the European Space Agency (ESA), from our own Sun to the farthest reaches of the Universe and its birth.

The show presents ESA’s participation in big international efforts such as the International Space Station and the Hubble Telescope. The viewers will learn about the hugely successful robotic missions such as Planck and ATHENA, which explore the different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum, from microwaves to gamma rays. They will fly on a tour of the Solar System, starting at the Sun and the new Solar Orbiter mission, through the planets and exciting classic and upcoming planetary missions such as BepiColombo, Venus Express, ExoMars, JUICE, and Cassini. The amazing Rosetta mission will take viewers away to the comets and the outer reaches of the heliosphere. They will finally look to the future with technologically advanced upcoming missions to study the stars and exoplanets.

Fulldome Show ‘Europe’s Cosmic Quest’ is produced by the Regional Natural History Museum of Plovdiv, in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA). It is directed by critically acclaimed director and producer Theofanis Matsopoulos. It has been funded under a contract the Regional Natural History Museum of Plovdiv and ESA, as part of the ESA PECS program in Bulgaria.

The new Planetarium documentary I have created on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Natural History Museum of Plovdiv will be released in fall 2020.
The documentary "Europe's Cosmic Quest" presents ESA's participation in major international missions and the research work they produce.
The show will be freely available for licensing by institutions based in ESA member-countries in fulldome 4K, 2K, and Flat screen HD versions (5.1 Surround and 2-channel Audio)

Σύντομα θα παρουσιαστεί το νέο ντοκιμαντέρ Πλανηταρίου που έχω δημιουργήσει για λογαριασμό της 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 (𝐄𝐒𝐀) και του Μουσείου Φυσικής Ιστορίας του 𝐏𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐝𝐢𝐯.
Το ντοκιμαντέρ Πλανηταρίου 38 λεπτών «𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞'𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭» παρουσιάζει τη συμμετοχή της ESA σε μεγάλες διεθνείς αποστολές και το ερευνητικό έργο που παράγουν.

Θα διανέμεται δωρεάν σε όλες τις χώρες-μέλη της ESA.

Το νέο ντοκιμαντέρ πλανηταρίου με τίτλο “𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡’𝐬 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞” που έχω σκηνοθετήσει, θα παρουσιαστεί στο 15o Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Πλανηταρίων που θα γίνει στο 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐧'𝐬 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐮𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 & 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 στην Georgia των ΗΠΑ από 13 έως 16 Αυγούστου.

Στο ντοκιμαντέρ, παρουσιάζονται οι παράγοντες που διαμορφώνουν τον συνεχώς μεταβαλλόμενο καιρό και το κλίμα του πλανήτη μας. Για τις ανάγκες της ταινίας έγιναν γυρίσματα με κινηματογραφικές βιντεοκάμερες υπερύψηλης ανάλυσης και δημιουργήθηκαν πρωτότυπες επιστημονικές εικονικές αναπαραστάσεις.

Το ντοκιμαντέρ κυκλοφορεί στην αγορά της Ιαπωνίας από τον Φεβρουάριο. Στην Ευρώπη και την Αμερική θα παρουσιαστεί στο τέλος του έτους.

My new planetarium documentary “𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡’𝐬 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞” will be presented at the 𝟏𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥, 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟏𝟑𝐭𝐡 - 𝟏𝟔𝐭𝐡 (𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐧'𝐬 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐮𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 & 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬).

In the show, the factors that shape the ever changing weather and climate of our planet are presented. For the needs of the documentary, filming was done with the use of ultra high resolution cinematic cameras. Also, original immersive scientific visualizations were created.

The documentary was released in Japan last February. In Europe and USA it will be released at the end of the year.

The planetarium documentary "The Sun  Our living Star", Directed by Theofanis Matsopoulos and produced by The European Southern Observatory (ESO), was awarded the prize "The Best Science Popularizing Fulldome Show", during the IV International Fulldome Festival "Reflections of the Universe" held on June 14-17, in the "Valentina Tereshkova Science Museum and Planetarium", in Yaroslavl, Russia. The festival was devoted to the anniversary of Tereshkova's flight.

The National Symphony Orchestra of ERT performed "The Planets" at the Stavros Niarchos Hall of the National Opera for an interplanetary musical journey under the music direction of Nikos Haliasas. The video screened during the concert was directed and produced by Theofanis Matsopoulos. The Planets, is a seven-movement orchestral suite by the English composer Gustav Holst, written between 1914 and 1916. Each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the Solar System. From its premiere to the present day, the suite has been enduringly popular, influential, widely performed and frequently recorded. The video travels the audience to the Sun and the Planets, using impressive images and visualizations of the latest observations of our Solar System. Mars - The Red Planet 360 Virtual Reality Documentary

The documentary "Mars: The Red Planet VR 360" shows with the use of the latest technology on Virtual Reality the planet Mars and its history of exploration.
The creator Theofanis Matsopoulos presents the subject with a scientific prospective while the impressive graphics that are based on scientific measurements and real images make the viewer to experience the most realistic way the trip to Mars.
The use of VR technology displays through a special mask a stereoscopic ultra-high definition video so as to create a sense of depth in the space. Similarly, the existence of three-dimensional sound helps the user to understand what is going on around the virtual space that surrounds him with very natural way, while simultaneously exclude the user from the sounds of the real world, which could distract the virtual experience.
